Mohegan Sun Launches Online Casino Website In New Jersey

Mohegan Sun CasinoThe New Jersey online gambling market has not lived up to initial expectations as gambling websites have complained about a lack of player traffic which has resulted into revenue levels that were much below initial expectations.

Ultimate Gaming and Betfair have already shutdown their online gambling websites in New Jersey and pulled out stating that the market stagnation has made it hard for them to continue operations. Industry analysts have also predicted that New Jersey’s online gambling industry could continue to remain in a slum in 2016 and this has discouraged new gambling companies from entering the New Jersey market.

Mohegan Sun has decided to ignore those predictions and foray in to the New Jersey online gambling industry. The operator recently launched after collaborating with the Resorts Casino Hotel and making use of its i-gaming permit. This is the second website that is using Resort’s i-gaming permit as the first website is owned by Resorts.

Since 2012, the Resorts Casino Hotel is being managed by the Mohegan Gaming Advisors which is a subsidiary of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority (MTGA). In a statement, MTGA president Bobby Soper said

The first tribe to enter the New Jersey online gambling market was the Pala Band of Mission Indians who tied up with the Borgata Casino Hotel and Spa in November 2014 to launch The website is offering slots, blackjack, video poker, table games, roulette and many more.

The online gambling industry has improved a little in 2015 as online gambling operators are reported to have made a collective amount of close to $72 million during the first half of 2015. This is a 14% increase when compared to the same period in 2014 and the Mohegan Sun and New Jersey’s gambling commission will be encouraged by these numbers.

The New Jersey gambling commission believes that the online gambling market will get a much needed boost when PokerStars, the biggest online poker website in the world enters the New Jersey market. PokerStars has also tied up with Resorts and is expected to launch its online operations in New Jersey during the 3rd quarter of 2015.
